Your mower ran well and suddenly shut down. What happened?

You may not be sure how to fix your mower, or you may not even know what caused the problem in the first place. Fortunately, these things are very common and usually have a pretty straightforward solution.

Here are some of the most common ignition problems and some possible fixes for them!

When a mower engine works, the spark plug ignites, creating a source of ignition that is the driving force to get your engine running. No spark = no performance.

When you turn off the key to your lawnmower, the engine will normally shut off. In other cases, you may need to remove the spark plug wire to stop the engine from running.

This can be caused by a variety of causes. However, two of the most common problems that cause this problem are when the ignition switch connections are broken or when the "kill" wire, also known as the ground wire, has been cut or disconnected from the area it is "grounded" to.

The best way to fix your Ignition Coil is to check the kill cable, make sure it is plugged in and completely intact. If this looks good, it's time to check the ignition switch.

To check your ignition switch, you can use an ohmmeter to determine whether there is a connection between terminals "S" and "B". If there isn't one, the ignition switch is your problem and you will need to replace it to get your mower to run properly again.

If your mower starts and runs for a few seconds / minutes and then suddenly dies, this can be one of many problems. Often times, this problem can be traced back to one of the following problems: the carburetor, fuel cap, fuel, or spark plug.

The gas you get from a gas station contains ethanol, which is not good for engines. It is not recommended to store this fuel for more than 30 days, especially if you are going to use it in a small engine. Using old fuel in an engine can break the carburetors and stop working properly.

The first thing you can do is remove the carburetor and clean it. You can do a mild cleansing, such as B. Empty the fuel from the carburetor shell and spray carburetor cleaner into all openings of the carburetor. Another possible cause is the fuel cap. Tank caps have very small ventilation slots through which some air can get into the gas tank. This is critical to its proper function. If the vent is blocked in any way it could cause your mower to shut down. To see if this is the problem, slightly unscrew the gas tank to allow air to enter the fuel tank, then try running the mower. If this works, you should put the fuel cap back on as soon as possible.

After all, it could be the spark plug or the ignition coil. If they are damaged or loose, the mower can start and then shut down. If the spark plug wire is loose or damaged, the connection will not be sufficient to keep the engine running. To test this, you can use a spark plug tester. If the spark plug does not have a visible and strong spark between the electrodes when the engine is started, the spark plug should be replaced immediately.

One of the easiest solutions to this problem is to adjust the cutting height of your mower. Trying to cut too much grass can cause the mower to stall and shut down if the glass in the deck is clogged.
